How Women's Fashion still has room to evolve;

Women's fashion still has room to evolve, even though its come so far already. Uniform policies are a way of restricting style and personal expression, as well as showing double standards within gender. Such as girls uniform policies often being stricter than boys , with some schools going as far as banning trousers and policing their students in to only wearing skirts.  This only forces girls in to a gender standard as well as enforcing the idea that what a woman wears dictates how they act.

The idea of the power suit is another modern issue where lexical asymmetry is present . Men’s suits are simply suits, but women’s are power suits. As if women need an excuse to wear suits or an incentive to wear something more commonly associated with masculinity.

Another issue that fashion plays an impact on and where designers have raised awareness is rape culture. The outdated idea that what a victim wears has led to their assault and that it’s not surprising ‘what happened to her , look at what she’s wearing”. Many designers have used their platforms in order to address this issue , and show how clothing does not play a role in the sexual assault of women.

Here is a video of a fashion design brand called the guilty clothes collection, that used irony to make their audience believe it was a lingerie show, until the models came out wearing bland, casual everyday clothes. This was to raise awareness on sexual violence and was a brave move from the designer.
