Icon of the era; 2010s

 Zendaya

Zendaya Coleman, born on the 1st September 1996, first began her career as a child model and backup dancer for nickelodeon on the hit Disney Channel show Shake It Up which began her rise to fame. I have chosen her to be my 2010 icon as she is a model celebrity for my generation in particular and younger, as she is the face of many campaigns and openly speaks out about current movements and general activism. She is of a mixed race ethnicity and often speaks about her own racial struggles in the movie industry, that's mainly white-washed. She has helped pioneer the movie industry and taken on roles since such as being the female lead in The Greatest Showman, as well as moving to more mature roles such as her incredible depiction of drug addict Rue in the HBO drama 'Euphoria'.She has also starred in Netflix film ' Malcolm and Marie' as Marie, which was directed by breakout director, Sam Levinson who also wrote Euphoria.

In terms of fashion Zendaya isn't shy; with her own innovative ideas,  she has been known to pick out herself.,her red carpet looks are widely appreciated. With her signature being simplistic, classy outfits that fit with the demographic she appeals too as well as complimenting her own tall, slim figure and also linking with her heritage. She is known best for her street style looks that range from tailored trousers to leather jackets and midi skirts. She keeps it casual but isn't afraid to go monochromatic such as the all yellow outfit she wore to this years MTV awards. Overall. she is an icon because she represents diversity and is an unproblematic, fresh face forging her own path.
